Desperate and Weak Greg Abbott Resorts to Culture War Politics because He Knows He’s Losing Steam

DALLAS, TX — Career politician Greg Abbott is losing – and he knows it.

Seven recent polls confirm his lead has evaporated in recent weeks, with Democrat Gina Hinojosa firmly closing the gap and making the race for Texas governor a statistical tie. That’s because the more Texans are reminded of Greg Abbott’s disastrous record, the more they’re reminded that after 30 years in public office, he’s spent more time cozying up to billionaires and big corporations and flooding Texas with data centers and Flock cameras, than he’s focused on making life more affordable for working Texas families.

This is why the only card he has to play is to resort to tired and divisive culture war politics – because he’s desperate, his act is old, and knows he’s losing steam. And rather than face Hinojosa on a debate stage, he’s hiding behind a weak campaign email right before he goes to the MAGA corruption carnival in Dallas, where he’ll tie himself even further to a historically unpopular president whose tariffs and forever wars are driving up costs for Texans across the state.

And Greg Abbott certainly doesn’t want to talk about stealing $1 billion from Texas public schools to pay for a corrupt voucher program. So what does he do? He resorts to old culture war politics because he doesn’t have anything else to run on and is trying to distract voters from who’s really making life more expensive: the billionaires and big corporations lining his pockets,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
