INSPIRE Alliance launches to accelerate national security innovation 

INSPIRE Alliance, a new nonprofit organization affiliated with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), has launched in College Station to accelerate engineering solutions for critical national security challenges.

INSPIRE, which stands for Integrated National Security: Precise Insight & Resilient Engineering, was established following approval by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and is structured as a nonprofit corporation affiliated with TEES. The organization will connect expertise from across the A&M System with government, defense and industry partners to move urgent mission needs more quickly from research and development to real-world application.

“INSPIRE Alliance reflects Texas A&M Engineering’s commitment to leveraging our world-class research capabilities and innovation to address challenges critical to our nation’s future,” said Dr. Robert H. Bishop, vice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering. “Through collaboration with government, industry and academic partners, we can accelerate the development and deployment of transformative technologies that enhance national security, resilience and global competitiveness.”

The establishment of INSPIRE expands TEES’s ability to pursue applied national security research opportunities and strengthen collaborations with federal agencies and industry partners. The organization is designed to help identify mission-driven research needs, rapidly assemble multidisciplinary teams and accelerate the development, testing and deployment of emerging technologies.

INSPIRE will leverage capabilities across Texas A&M Engineering and the A&M System in areas including artificial intelligence and data analytics, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, autonomous systems and robotics, sensors and human performance.  

“The Texas A&M University System has some of the best researchers, engineers and facilities in the country, and INSPIRE Alliance gives us another way for our System’s resources to work collaboratively together in serving our nation,” said Glenn Hegar, chancellor of The Texas A&M University System. “Texas has always played an important role in our national defense. INSPIRE will help us turn great ideas into real solutions, create new opportunities for Texans and make sure Texas and the entirety of the A&M System continue to lead in the technologies that will shape our national security for decades to come.” 

At the center of INSPIRE’s mission are two guiding principles — precise insight and resilient engineering. These principles support the organization’s goal of delivering engineering solutions that enhance the performance, effectiveness and safety of those responsible for national security.  

INSPIRE is expected to contribute to Texas A&M Engineering’s and the A&M System’s continued research growth by attracting talent, expanding strategic partnerships and advancing technologies that strengthen both national security and economic competitiveness.
